DAY 1
This cycling and four wheel driving adventure
is for people who would love to know what it is like to cycle some
of the Nullarbor ‘crossing’.
The road across the Nullarbor Plain, the Eyre Highway, is one
of Australia’s great experiences. Our first day is spent
cycling and four wheel driving our way northward past Port Augusta
then west towards the infamous ‘Nullarbor Plain’. Even from the road, the red peaks
of the Flinders Ranges can be seen above the blue bush plains
outside Port Augusta.

DAYS 2, 3,
4 & 5 The crossing is far from
monotonous, with breathtaking views of the Great Australian Bight,
at times only a few hundred meters from the road. With 1400 km of coastline
The Great Australian Bight is one of the world’s most arid shores.
The cliffs and bare dunes of the region are spectacular – especially
when viewed from the bike seat!
The
itinerary will be flexible and allows
for frequent rides along the long, straight Nullarbor Plain. As the
trek continues the reason behind the naming of this area becomes
apparent. The name
Nullarbor is a corruption of the Latin word for ‘not any
trees’. The completely
flat plain is believed to have once been a seabed. The scenery will
vary from Mallee scrubland to paddocks of wheat. The journey
uncovers stone ruins, desolate flats, and dry lakebeds as we travel
though townships such as Ceduna, Nullarbor, Eucla and the gold
mining town of Norseman.

DAYS 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 The cycling and four wheel driving turns south from
Norseman, towards the wide sandy beaches and scenic coastline of the
Recherche Archipelago and the township of Esperance. A port for the gold fields
and service centre for the pastoral region surrounding it, this
small town boasts some of the most spectacular beaches in
Australia!
Travelling along the Great Ocean Drive, we
visit Pink Lake, Nine Mile Beach, Observatory Point, Lucky Bay and
Cape Le Grand National Park.
We have opportunity to cycle through the brilliant
wildflowers and landscapes surrounding the Fitzgerald River National
Park, and then travel onto West Australia’s oldest town,
Albany. Around Albany,
Frenchman’s Bay and Natural Bride, the Gap and the Blowholes provide
excellent destinations after a ride or drive.
The last days of our adventure are in the
lush green, rolling hills and majestic towering karri and jarrah
forests of the South West corner. In stark contrast to the first
half of this tour, our last days are spent cycling and driving along
some old forest tracks, walking through the ‘Valley of the Giants’
tree top walk and sampling some famous Margaret River wines. The walks and rides will
reward you with magnificent coastal scenery, surfing beaches and
some of the cave formations of the Margaret River region. We end the tour in the late
afternoon of day 10, in Western Australia’s capital city, Perth.
This adventure will provide memories for a
lifetime. |
